A total of 5,000 family kits, containing essential supplies, have been mobilised by the GDRN network to aid flood-affected communities in Sarawak.

Following severe flash floods in East Malaysia earlier this  month, GLC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (GDRN) is providing crucial humanitarian support to  communities entering the post-flood recovery phase, focusing on restoring essential services  and infrastructure.

As a philanthropic coalition of GLCs and GLICs, the initiative has mobilised RM1.3 million  worth of aid, deploying 5,000 GDRN Bantu Family Kits to help affected families. These kits— containing electrical appliances, floor mattresses, towels, and sarongs—are being distributed  across three key areas in Sarawak through the Resident offices: 2,500 kits have already  reached Bintulu, while 1,500 will be delivered to Miri and 1,000 to Kuching. This relief effort  is expected to benefit over 20,000 individuals, providing them with essential household items  to help rebuild their daily lives.

On 15 February 2025, a Flag Off Ceremony was held at iSecure MASkargo, Sepang, Selangor.  This event marked the official launch of the GDRN recovery mission for Sarawak and  underscored the power of collaboration among all stakeholders. The ceremony was attended by  representatives from 14 contributing organisations, including CIMB Foundation, Khazanah  Nasional, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) [KWAP], Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), Malaysia Airports, MASkargo, MASkargo Logistics, Maybank Group, Permodalan Nasional  Berhad (PNB), Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan PETRONAS, Yayasan Sime Darby, Yayasan TM, and  Yayasan UEM. As the host, En. Zulkefly Ujang, Head of Operations at MASkargo together with  MASkargo Logistics Sdn Bhd welcomed the GDRN delegation to the flag-off event and  expressed their continuous support via their dedicated freighter services during disasters.

Pn. Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, Trustee & Managing Director of Yayasan Hasanah, a  foundation of Khazanah Nasional, emphasised the collective impact of the effort:

“As we send off this mission today, let’s remember that behind every aid package is a family  trying to rebuild their lives, a child hoping for normalcy to return to school, and a community  striving to stand strong again. These past weeks have been devastating for so many, but in times  of hardship, it is our collective compassion and action that make the biggest difference. This  effort is more than just delivering aid—it is about restoring dignity, reigniting hope, and showing  those affected that they are not alone. Together, we are rebuilding lives, one step at a time.”

Pn. Ainol Shaharina Sahar, Director of Yayasan TM, a foundation arm of Telekom Malaysia  Berhad (TM), expressed her appreciation for GDRN members’ contributions in her remarks,  noting the value of uplifting spirits and giving back to the community.

Yayasan Hasanah and Yayasan TM, as co-secretariats of the initiative, coordinated the mission  alongside Red A Humanitarian Development Global. Ensuring smooth logistics, Malaysia  Airports facilitated key operational needs at both KL International Airport and Kuching  International Airport, including security passes and gate allocations, while MASkargo provided  freight and logistics support to ensure timely delivery of aid.

The mission is further strengthened through partnerships with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Bencana Negeri (JPBN)  Sarawak, and volunteers from Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM). The event was  also attended by En. Hussain Moh, Deputy Director-General of NADMA, reaffirming the  agency’s ongoing collaboration in disaster response efforts.

This initiative is part of a broader Northeast Monsoon (Monsun Timur Laut) relief effort across  Malaysia, where GLCs and GLICs have collectively contributed RM24 million to strengthen  nationwide post-monsoon recovery initiatives.

Disaster relief requires ongoing commitment. The initiative encourages organisations and  individuals to explore how they can contribute to similar efforts, ensuring continued  support for communities in need.
