In celebration of International Deaf Day, we hosted a media briefing with Sagar Savla on Friday, 4 October, with Malaysian reporters at the Google Malaysia office to raise awareness of Google’s efforts around accessibility and how AI can help build technology that works for everyone. The briefing focused on Live Transcribe.
This was followed by a Google Cafe on Sunday, 6 October, hosted by the not-for-profit organization YMCA KL to help improve the quality of life for members of the deaf and hard of hearing community in Malaysia.
We took a deeper look at two of our latest accessibility apps - Live Transcribe and Sound Amplifier - and demonstrated them in everyday situations that would be useful for the users. Media were also invited to attend this and see the apps in action.
A total of 160 attendees joined the workshop which included a 30-minute presentation to introduce the two apps along with a live demo to show the app in action. This was followed by a fun-filled quiz which had the crowd buzzing with excitement and competitiveness. The attendees then had a chance to get a more detailed look at the two apps by trying them out for themselves at the experience booths and to have their questions answered.
