Google Earth Outreach for Good

Updated: Jun 11, 2025

Google Earth Outreach for Good was a Pecha Kucha-style press event where we showcased four Google Earth Outreach stories.

Our storytellers represented nonprofit organisations dealing with Indigenous peoples concerns: Colin Nicholas, coordinator from the Center of Orang Asli Concerns (COAC); Pam bin Yeek, a Temiar tribe representative from Cunex, Perak; Lili, who spoke on behalf of her mother Yebet binti Saman of the Semaq Beri tribe; and Jef Yangman, mapping expert with Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS) -- each shared how Google tools have helped them preserve their language, culture and customary lands. The event also served as a means of inspiring other nonprofits to leverage Google’s platforms and tools for their public advocacy work.

Our event guest of honor was Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, with Marc Woo, Country Head for Google Malaysia opening the proceedings. Here’s what Minister Yeo had to say:

“Access to technology should no longer be a privilege just for those living in urban areas. However, some groups may be left behind in the adoption of new and modern technologies due to the lack of accessibility to basic infrastructures such as the internet. It is therefore particularly important that all communities are given equal opportunity to access the use of such technology tools.”
